Judy I was just browsing, found this staircase that I liked and read your question. It's too bad no one has answered by now. I'm not a decorator, but your idea sounds like it would work. Maybe you can cut out some poster board to the size of your kick area, paint THEM (instead of the actual kick board) put them in place and see if you like it. That way you're not committed if you don't like the result. Take care,

Mary Jage My so called kick board is the same color as my steps. And I had 3 boys and never had scuffs and dirt.
