This seems to bre a room without plants, photos, books, pictures of fmily members, or art. - There are no signs of life. I know tht often these are rooms that have just been completed, and are waiting fir the usual touches that will be a part of the tenants arrivals: books, favorite paintings, personal connections, a few plants, even a bouquet of seasonal flowers or grasses. »
Freespace Design LLC There are 3 very large original paintings in this room (by the owner) as well as several plants, and a few selected photographs, although not family members, just not in this particular view. Also, not everyone likes to see a clutter of books in a small, one room space. They are stored out of site, as are cd's DVD's etc. We're all different and have different ideas of what a personal space should be.....and that's a good thing.
How do you secure the Expedit? - Hi! I'm wondering, since the Ikea website says you should secure this bookcase to a wall with an anti-topple device, did you feel it was ok to just leave it un-secured and on wheels? I'd love to do something like this as a room divider in my bedroom, but I want the unit to hold a TV, and I'm worried that the weight of the TV will be too heavy for the Expedit to hold. I love the idea of having the unit on wheels, but , would it be better to secure it on one end to a wall? (i.e., secure on the right side, so that you can access the space behind the unite from the left).
Thanks!

Freespace Design LLC Hi, I have the Expedits (2) here mounted on castors so they can be moved around. They have been like this for several years and so far they have been totally stable. Because they can move it appears they are less likely to topple. However I don't have any small children or animals to worry about in this space. Fixing them to a wall is an extra precaution, but Ikea now sell castors specifically for the Expedit so they can't be expecting everyone to permanently fix them down.
alinka118 Perfect, thanks for clarifying. I don't have animals or children, either, but I was just wondering how stable they are if Ikea is recommending them to be affixed :) I was planning on using this to create two separate spaces in my upstairs loft, it's a great way to get the light through, but still have some sort of "wall". This makes me feel much better, thanks for your reply!
The open shelving works great as a room divider, and provides easy access from both sides. For a little more separation, follow this designer's lead by covering some of the openings.
When you have an open-concept dining room, placing ready to assemble bookcases help define the space and add a focal point. The Arco floor lamp is a great alternative to chandeliers when there are no ceiling-mount outlets available.

The divider is perfect! exactly the kind of thing I had in mind. I had intended my room to be something of an IKEA functional/vintage scramble so this sort of showcases one part of it
