Simple rustic steel rods were used for the handrail. They were simply cut down to size with a chop saw, left in their natural part rusty state. They proved to be the perfect compliment to the entire look.

Make a staircase out of recycled wood crates! Great idea, because don't we all have a surplus of cool-looking vintage soda crates that we just haven't found a creative use for? You can't even buy this sort of thing in a thrift store in California. Spending top dollar on vintage crates in an antique shop kind of defeats the budget-friendly purpose of using reclaimed wood.
