Island house in southern Florida, custom-designed and pre-cut by Habitat Post & Beam, Inc. This house was ferried to the job site where it was assembled by a local builder. Photos by Michael Penney, architectural photographer IMPORTANT NOTE: We are not involved in the finish or decoration of these homes, so it is unlikely that we can answer any questions about elements that were not part of our kit package, i.e., specific elements of the spaces such as appliances, colors, lighting, furniture, landscaping, etc. ADDITIONAL NOTE: This photo was used in a nice Houzz article about vacation house swapping options. The use of the photo in that article was not preapproved by Habitat, and we want to clarify that this house is not available for vacation home swapping.

Raised - Our home was destroyed during hurricane sandy this past October. How high is this house and what was the cost to raise it? We have to go up ten feet. »
Habitat Post & Beam, Inc. Dear Sara: This was an all-new construction on an island in Florida, built from the ground (or in this case the piers/platform) up. The piers that you see are 40' long total, sunk in approx. 20' down and exposed about 16-20' from ground level to floor. This is a large house and your pier specifications would be different depending on the load they will bear, the soil conditions and your area building code. The homeowner and their independent builder were responsible for preparing the foundation before our material kit package for the home was delivered to the site, so I have no idea what the cost of preparing the site was.
