Degas' work Dancer Making Points depicts a beautifully adorned ballerina in the middle of a dance. Her yellow and pink costume is rendered in intricate detail, including beautiful flowers on her costume and in her hair. She holds her head askew and looks away, which is a common trait in Degas' paintings of dancers. Once again, the focal point is the dancer herself as the background blurs into oblivion. Her dance movement is also very precisely rendered. This pastel is widely known as the center of an FBI investigation because the work had been reported missing in 1992. It now hangs in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City although it was at one point the center of a family dispute tied to the estate of a copper heiress.
