These photographs were taken of the roof deck (May 2012) by our client and show the wonderful planting and how truly green it is up on a roof in the midst of industrial/commercial Chelsea. There are also a few photos of the clients' adorable cat Jenny within the space.

what is the main structure holding the vines and wood slats is it wood or steel »
Lynn Gaffney Architect, PLLC The red tree is a Japanese maple and I'm sorry I do not recall the other tree. Thank you for your interest and I'm sorry for the delay.
Lynn Gaffney Architect, PLLC Thanks for your interest. The trellis canopies are quite complicated structurally. They are steel posts with welded cantilevered members - this is an angled intersection and the curve is a minor steel element added afterwards. You can see this a bit more clearly in photo 1/25 for the project (from the outside). In any case the steel posts are anchored down through the roof to structural beams below - some of which were added for this purpose. I hope this is helpful. Regards - Lynn
Wood slats also work well with climbing plants. This urban roof deck lets plants climb the fence as well as a canopy over the dining area. The mix of different types of plantings is well considered alongside the three-sided fencing in the intimate space.
