Space is not an issue in this large modern home. The dining table is free to float comfortably right off the kitchen, with a separate seating to boot.

Here's an island that gives way to a table and as it's making that transition, the room changes from the kitchen to a wider space for socializing. It's close enough to be of the kitchen without being in the kitchen.

Initially installing windows that are energy-efficient and properly sealed allows for this amazing view, all year round, stress-free.

Obviously, this bears no resemblance to our house, or to my taste, but I like the way the kitchen flows into the eating area

I have no issue with an island for extra counter space -- it's strategic, but if there's a space for breakfast nook, what about a table rather than banquettes etc? could be interesting.
