HP Rovinelli Architects Thanks! The fireplace is custom, wood burning, built by Jeff Gamelin of Orland, Maine. The back of the firleplace is safety glass, allowong visibilty from the screened summer room beyond.
marzmaz Beautiful space!! I'm exploring options to seal off one side of a two-sided fireplace in a house we recently purchased (to eliminate inherent smoking issues). In doing some research, it seems like a ceramic 'glass' suits the bill, but I'm searching for someone to measure install. Could you tell me what sort of subcontractor you hired for that work? Thanks!
Safety? - I'm wondering if you can tell me the safety of the double sided fireplace? Could the glass be easily broken to gain entry into the home? Thanks. »
HP Rovinelli Architects The glass is specifically made for a fireplace and is very thick and therefore difficult to break through, tougher than a standard window. The house has an alarm system and all the glass is secured.
HP Rovinelli Architects The stone is native to Maine; the chimney was custom designed and installed by Jeff Gamelin at Freshwater Stone (http://www.freshwaterstone.com/site/).
COASTROAD Hearth & Patio Since no one else has jumped in . . .
This appears to be a custom masonry fireplace, likely with a ceramic glass panel installed on the porch side, but there are indoor/outdoor gas fireplaces available "off-the-shelf", so to speak:
HP Rovinelli Architects This was a custom masonry wood burning fireplace. We found a supplier of fireglass suitable for exterior applications. The fire is open to the lving room, but you see through the glass to the fire from the porch. Thanks!
Renovate your mantle. While some mantle choices are intricate and require professional help, it is a susprisingly easy DIY project that can change the entire aesthetic of the space.
indoor/outdoor fireplace- does it give off as much heat to inside? Just asthetic from outside? built into wall so you can see outside too?cool if on side with deck
