Scott Haig, CKD Hi aravny, these are custom-built mirrors I designed to fit into the existing wall: a fixed mirror spans between two recessed, operable door medicine cabinets. The result is that the entire mirror is in a single plane, flush with the wall. I hope this is of some help to you, and thanks for asking.

Scott Haig, CKD Dear kshoe, first of all, you are very kind; secondly, we went from big concept to tiny details. This design was a fairly lengthy process in close collaboration with the client, who had collected photos and some precise ideas about what might work well in the space. We bounced our ideas off each other, refining certain aspects as we went, and working closely with the craftspeople--the result is the finished bathroom you see in the photo. Scott Haig, CKD Thank you for asking singhdeez. Yes, as you correctly point out, there are so many religious (and secular busts) from which to choose to augment your daily ritual. Sometimes it is just hard to choose--which do you think might provide the more peaceful look you're attempting in your space? In this project for instance, my clients displayed items of great personal importance to them. Although I did not specify these items (such as the buddhas, towels, river stones, etc.) or their placement, the photo accurately depicts a collaboration incorporating both client and designer's tastes--and I think peaceful in effect. Scott Haig, CKD The pulls we used here are from a company called Hafele and are stainless steel--I don't have the product number, but I think they're called "clip pulls". They are "L" shaped, with the top leg of the "L" behind the door, and the bottow leg of the "L" underneath the door. In the photo above, you can barely see it at the bottom of the opened door. Hafele has an online catalogue with all sorts of great products. I hope this helps!

Scott Haig, CKD The center mirror panel is fixed--we rearranged studs in the existing wall to accomodate the recessed medicine cabinets on either side and felt it provided adequate storage. We also wanted to try and keep the lines to a minimum by not breaking up the large expanse of mirror in the center.
The lighting was provided by the client who purchased them at Restoration Hardware.

Scott Haig, CKD The cabinetry comes from Crystal Fine Cabinetry--they can make almost any type of adjustment to their cabinets, and the production is done in a factory (not job-site built), where they can control the environment to protect (and guarantee) the finishes. This is a Lyptus wood veneer with Cherry edgebanding.

bepsf You could certainly have such a thing designed and built for your bath - it would essentially be a shower with extra-high curbing.

Scott Haig, CKD Hi jgosur, I agree with bepsf, it is possible to custom-build a deeper shower pan, but I think you also get some challenges with comfort in using a shallow tub. A standard residential bathtub has sides that are about 14" tall and can, of course, contain most splashing when filled.

You know I've seen a 3 foot by 3 foot shallow tub, but the place was built in the 1950's in San Antonio, TX. Honestly, I'd never seen anything like it and it was necessary to step down into it. I will keep my eyes open for something comparable.

The medicine cabinets are completely custom-made and fitted--we had to work between studs in the existing wall, and at one point the cabinets are only about 2" deep--but overall they are about 4" deep. The cabinet frames are painted (gray) mdf board and painted wood trims. The hinges are frameless-style cabinet hinges, which allowed us very small clearances between the fixed mirror and the operable ones. Mirrors were fitted and mounted to the mdf panels and are flush with the surrounding tile--gaps were minimized as much as possible. We originally planned for touch-latch operation, but the client didn't want fingerprints on the mirrors, so we opted for small L-clip pulls instead.
