Debbie M I know that Ikea sells strips of magnetic steel to mount in kitchen. I had it in our prev house and if I remember right it came in 2 sizes, approx 18" and 24"??

mousemaker i don't really know except that i know i could never live with the ones pictured. it's too dangerous if a person is accident prone, arthritic, or takes blood thinners. I'm not trying to be dramatic, just practical. the other thing is that if they are out in the open, they won't stay very clean. i prefer a knife block or a drawer that is specific for storing knives.

bepsf I prefer knife blocks - but that's only because I don't have enough drawers to devote one to be fitted out just to handle them.

The cons are - they may not disperse heat and keep heat at a constant temperature as gas stoves do. There usually is a delay to heating up and may be frusturating to the experienced cook.

Cook tops that don't have a frame can crack, chip or break if a heavy object falls on the corner or edge, and if the ceramic is installed in a hard countertop like granite or concrete.

tomstop I love my ceramic cook top and wanted one with out the edge so it would be easier to clean, however someone dropped a glass lid on a corner and it broke and had to be replaced...$400. I have no problem with heating or cooking on it. The touch control panel means no knobs to clean!
