The kitchen/dining area recalls the cabin presented earlier, yet here the design takes advantage of the corner location. A square window (left) frames the trees, while the horizontal window (right) looks into the distance at the snow drift and a small building.

In this kitchen and dining space, lots of squares and strong geometrics abound — and the smooth shapes of these pendant lights help to create a nice balance. Don't you love how they stand out against the beautiful wood finish on the ceiling?

15. Kitchen countertop There are too many things I love about this island, and the checkered finish is only the beginning. Everyone tends to hang out in the kitchen, and utilizing an island as an actual seating space allows you to use it for both meal preparation and actually eating the meal. Besides, with everyone congregating in the kitchen, you might be able to sucker someone into chopping the onions.

While we might not usually associate a kitchen full of clean modern lines with coziness, this kitchen is a perfect spot to warm up with some cocoa after a day of playing in the snow. Even the barstools are wearing snuggly cozies.
