John Bynum That ceiling is covered in wood 1x8 planks and painted with a semi-gloss paint. That gives it the shine. Beware, it also will show up every defect in wood or drywall. Not a good idea for drywall ceilings unless you don't mind seeing a lot of variation. Looks great on wood.

This is my favorite kitchen design. I like the molding detail the windows on each side of the range. I presently have a 7' walnut butcher block counter on the island. Here I want to place the wood counter tops on either side of the range. I can look out the windows when I chop and set up my mise en place.
