Huettl Landscape Architecture That is an old Hollywood Juniper. They have a stigma these days, but can be quite sculptural. They aren't being planted much anymore, so in 20 years, there may not be many around. It is a plant worth considering in the right location.

Changes in weather will cause concrete to expand and contract, so it is usually laid in large square slabs to reduce the occurrence of cracking. Here is a great example of a more creative approach to the idea. These slabs are offset from each other rather than meeting at the corners.
Driveway design, and very interesting idea for front lawn - that gives feeling of varied height although planted area is flat. Would want one mighty large starter tree - the 24" size? Or 36"?
