COASTROAD Hearth & Patio First off - very nice fireplace and millwork arrangement by Steven Miller Design Studio!
Residential building code fireplace clearances only apply to site-built masonry fireplaces. Manufactured fireplaces, wood and gas, must be installed strictly according to the installation instructions supplied by the manufacturer (section 1004), and the requirements vary by fireplace model.
Unlisted wood-burning stoves, however, require 36" clearance to combustibles. So be sure you know what you're working with.
Some people use the industry term "zero-clearance" loosely to apply to any manufactured fireplace, but it is a misconception that manufactured fireplaces do not require clearance to combustibles. The gas fireplace above does require some clearance to the surrounding millwork. When using manmade materials in a fireplace surround as in the photo above, be careful to select a concrete based material (like Zodiaq or other quartz types), not a polymer base (like Corian or Avonite) so that it will not melt or burn when the fireplace is being used!
This fun little stool works well with the interesting shape of the white piece of art above and is put into use as a pedestal. The angled composition of its boards adds whimsy to the room.
7. Three's company. Some may have difficulty combining two main design elements, but this homeowner managed to do three. This asymmetrical layout mixes the size of all three pieces (television, fireplace and artwork) comfortably into one design by maximizing the height and balancing the width of the wall.Design tip: When adding artwork above the fireplace, do your research before purchasing to make sure it can withstand the heat output.
A very plain front would also look good next to the busy brick, but I'd add a plain wooden mantle across. I don't think it will be possible for the TV to go on top.

appreciate greatly that the television is offset from the fireplace. Personally I think the trend of placing a tv over the fireplace is as vile as placing a picasso under a tv!
