Having lived in her 1,500 sq. ft. Mid-Levels apartment for 10 years, the owner yearns for an interior make-over with a vibrant, brighter and more spacious ambience.
The owner revels in the joy of inviting friends and family over, sharing her culinary creations in a warm and inviting ambience. She spends a lot of time in the kitchen, which was once at the end of a dark corridor. Clifton Leung, the designer got rid of the corridor to enlarge the space and to create an open, bright and airy area for the kitchen, creating a perfect setting for mix and mingle between the chef and the guests. The rectangular kitchen, with an expansive worktop has become the hub of the home.
As a frequent traveler, the owner is keen to feature interesting paintings and ornaments she bought from her travels. As such, Clifton kept the background uncluttered and selected a plain color scheme, with plenty of wall space for paintings. Brightly colored paintings from Vietnam enliven the monotone wall space of the extended dining area, echoing the subtle elegance of the open kitchen.
Customized narrow oak shelves came in handy for the owner to display her rare and colorful collections. Color also plays a vital role in the overall design. The oak shelves are in perfect harmony with the oak flooring and the plain color scheme.
To create a sense of space and a seamlessness in the master suite, Clifton installed a semi-open en-suite bathroom with a glass wall in between. Smart application of mild lighting and soothing color in the master bedroom creates a sanctuary for the owner to escape from the hustle and bustle of the hectic life.
With the audio-visual equipment stands a painted feature wall, the living room design is kept clean and minimal, to offer a relaxing space for movie and music enjoyment.
Nestled beside the balcony, the new study is another comfortable work zone. The owner is no longer bounded by cold white walls and brick-like books on a drab bookcase. The immense windows and wood shelves bring in natural sunlight, offering a spectacular sea-view. The study creates a sense of warm – a perfect oasis to cleanse the mind and the soul.
Clifton envisages this apartment to be still as comfortable in ten years as it is now. In line with his core belief that every design should be timeless and able to stand the test of time.
