Elevated kitchen - Hi, we are thinking of doing an elevated kitchen as you have done here. I think it looks great! Was there any concern regarding serving food down steps? Thanks »
Hugh Jefferson Randolph Architects There wasn't a real concern, but We made the steps shallower, 6" down and 18" in the horizontal dimension, so that they're less of a barrier than typical staircase type steps. Thanks
I love this look! I'm considering doing the same thing with my kitchen, but am trying to find the right dimens - I love this look! I'm considering doing the same thing with my kitchen, but am trying to find the right dimensions. Is the wood plank 12" wide and 36" off the ground? Thanks! »
Hugh Jefferson Randolph Architects The wood plank is actually irregularly shaped but it is approximately 12" wide by 7 ft long. The length that is appropriate for you depends on how many stools you want to have. But the with should be at least 11" to have cups and small plates. BTW the wood plank is Pecan salvaged from old growth trees cut down to build a new condo tower in Austin.
Hugh Jefferson Randolph Architects Was not meant to be a chalkboard but with young children it certainly could be. It's of course a very durable material and when use inside it doesn't have the challenges of weathering. We liked how it provided a contrast to the warmth of the pecan counter and to the sleekness of the white cabinetry.
I love this wraparound entry console that maximizes the floor area, enlivens an otherwise dead corner, and expresses the homeowners' tastes and style. A custom built-in element that adds so much to the quality of space. Again, you see the floating element repeated in the bar area for consistency in the interior design of the home.
Here four steps link the kitchen above to the open living-dining space below. A peninsula with bar stools melds these two realms. The elevated kitchen enables one to oversee the living space from a lofty position.
