What type (and color) paver would complement this brick? - Our home has the same brick and we are in the process of updating our front veranda and walkway and I'm having a difficult time time deciding what type of paver or natural stone I should go with as I don't want it to look busy. Our windows/door and metal trim are painted in Farrow and Ball's Tanner's Brown. Any suggestions? Thanks. »
Can you tell me about the gutter system? - I just bought a midcentury modern home and need to update the gutters. I don't see any downpipes on this home but it looks as if there are nice square gutted. Can you tell me what product you used or are they custom? Thank you! »

The style of the home was also inspired by the variety of materials used in the work of Alvar Aalto, a style Randolph dubs "warm modernism." The brick used here is a Mexican Sand brick, and the wood underneath the overhangs is ipe.
5. Choose quality materials. Finally, think about every aspect of your project with that first "r" — reduce — in mind. We're currently renovating a house in Philadelphia built in the 1700s. The floors are original; the plaster is original; the brick front is original. By using materials that last, such as brick, we reduce the number of times a home needs to be renovated. And that means less waste and less energy used making new materials (and less work for contractors like me). Of course, there will always be work building for a growing population and serving people's changing needs and tastes. I just hate tearing out a cheap floor that lasted only 10 years.More guides to green building
