Becky Harris Hey Marlo, I just answered your other question in the ideabook, then took another look at the picture of it in that ideabook, and it certainly seems like it is a much bigger span than they say in the description (21"). I'm sorry I won't have access to the lamp until summer to see for myself! It's definitely a bit of a space hog - it doesn't really work in a small room unless there is a big empty corner.
marlo2469 I contacted the store and they said the base is adjustable. The narrowest it can go and still remain stable is between 18-19 inches so that works for me although I think it looks more elegant in a wider width.
I have noticed some of my favorite designers using this tripod floor lamp around Houzz and it makes me happy because I talked my parents into buying one for their house in Maine before I ever saw so many great designers using it. Total vindication. It has a bit of subtle nautical style to it and it's just a darn handsome lamp.
