The chair gets a lot of mileage out of the elliptical cut out in the back. It adds style, ventilation and an extra curve. It's available in a molded beech plywood or plastic, and with polished chrome or matte chrome legs. It also stacks for easy storage, though unless you own a restaurant, I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to leave every Globus you own out to show off all the time.
I love this curvy little number, and apparently, the Milwaukee Art Museum does too, as they just installed them at their new Santiago Calatrava pavilion. That's high praise! I also love the way Rachel Reider used them at The Veranda House Inn on Nantucket.
The gently curved elliptical hole in the back of the Globus serves multiple purposes beyond its unique design: It allows for additional ventilation and the alleviation of back pressure, and it can be used as a handle for easy maneuvering. Attachments on the seat bottom prevent damage during stacking and plastic glides protect floors.
Materials: Plastic seat and back; chromed matte or polished steel frame; plastic glides.
