Japanese garden for Oliver with maple trees
Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum)There’s no question that Japanese maples are beautiful, with colorful leaves in spring and fall, and graceful bare trunks in winter (some even have colorful trunks). With so many different
varieties of flowering cherries, crabapple and other prunus, citrus, Cornus, Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’, Magnolia grandiflora ‘Little Gem’, Japanese maple (pictured), olive, silver birch, Magnolia stellata ‘Star magnolia’ and weeping pear.
Work with what you have. A Japanese garden is intended to replicate the natural world that surrounds it in a smaller space. If your space is flat, as here, create a small mound or two to add interest, but don’t try to turn is into a hillside garden. If, instead, your land is naturally sloped, use that

The garden gets weekly maintenance, but it's light. Annual leaf drop maybe generates an extra 15 minutes of leaf litter cleanup
