Hello. The arbor was actually already there and we tied the new fence to it to give it more reason for being. I believe it has 2x2s at about 6" on center over the top.

I would suggest digging a 2-3 foot channel in front of bamboo and inserting a barrier. Then try to remove runners in yard. they are typically only about 6" deep.
