How much to slolpe a second floor wood decking to get water run off.
I get heavy rain at times and need to consider water run off on my second floor wood decking.
If I want to go with the weathered look - what IPE/stain should i get for the first time? Thanks
This is Ipe or Brazilian Iron wood that is not finished and weathered about 2 years old
Multilevel deck with wide steps to move between levels - slightly raised garden beds. Finally
Ask Tommy - ipe weatherd a pretty gray - not even a clear coat stain- how do I get this look????
Wood decking. And a wood deck is much more inviting than one made of a composite material. Each board will weather at its own pace and take on that patina that says, "Come, sit here and enjoy the view."

What color stain is used on the hardwood flooring?
There is no stain. The wood is natural Jatoba.
The cabinetry is ribbon mahogany, no stain.
Or also known as Sapele with a riff cut, which is what will make you see the straighter lines of the wood grain in many species. This is an African Mahogany.

Like the fireplace surround/cabinet and the wood burning stove-who makes the stove
What is the brown/black color of the trim and beams and is it paint or a stain? Thank you!
but perhaps you have a good metal shop near you and can discuss chemical patinas with them. As for the Trim- It is Mahogany wood with what I call an "Espresso" color stain. That is my name, not a Minwax name or some other brand. It was a custom formulation to match a cabinet sample I was in possession
steel underlying) whereas if there is the standard mill scale (as most of this was) then the color or tone was much deeper as the millscale starts out dark grey. It's a great method of "warming" steel. Our "Smith" is an artisan for sure- he has chemicals he uses to patina zinc and other metals as well.

Questions3
Which deck stain did you use here?
Was the bridge designed with support from below? What size/type of wood is along the edges of the deck?
Hi Susan and Aburpee, From the look of the deck it seems if they used a UV inhibitor Oil. Usually Ipe doesn't take staining well because of its density. We usually recommend Ipe Oil or Messmer's
carpets for wood fillers. Newer composite boards are wrapped in a thin plastic layer so they won’t stain or fade. These are more expensive than wood boards but often come with a warranty of 20 to 25 years, are low maintenance and can be made to look almost identical to any species of wood out there. Plus
Beautiful Ipe wood. Can we get a similar effect with Trex?
love the idea of the layered wood, stain color, and the accent it portray.
