(shadow) line to me. It is a great look - minimal and simple. However, it is not so simple to do well. It takes a good contractor who can keep things square and level. There is also the issue of wear and tear - without conventional base trim, the drywall can be susceptible to damage from mops, brooms, etc
use is to use flush base trim. It's a similar clean look, but can take a little more abuse.

regard to their zone, but they are found a lot in Calif., The Middle East & Mediterrainean region.....won't take a harsh winter. U would have to protect in a pot at best, i think.
Sweet idea to have a small water feature built into the front entry way. We could add a small fountain to our patio. Also really like the inset of different contrasting and diagonal stone pointing the way to the gate.
