This was a wooded back yard in Smyrna, GA . The main focal point was the long stream cascading down the hillside. The Mortared Flagstone Walkway and steps interacted with the stream and terminated at a patio and pond. It was all very natural and blended in with the existing landscape. The garden terraces as viewed from the home. The plant selections are chosen primarily for their foliage contrast and interest. A few flowering plants add to the interest at different times of the year. Here the Hot Lips Chelone is flowering along with the White wood aster.

This area, formerly a problem slope, was turned into a "conifer amphitheater", so called because the boulders, some naturally occurring, some added, create shelves and pockets to hold a conifer collection. The trees appear to look down upon garden visitors as they walk through the space to reach the fern garden and Japanese-inspired boardwalk. Photo by Jay Sifford
