Need help for my small family room/ open to my large kitchen.

Would any dark color on the ceiling. i.e., brown or gray, work as well as the black?
would have brought it to my attention. I would ask inspector to state/ identify what building or electrical code section/article limits the painting of work. If he can't state one then he should permit it.

juliaexton- I think you may be happy with going to Costco or Home Depot. They have HUSKY work bench style cabinets with bamboo surfaces and they are on casters. Perhaps you could use one to fit your needs.

brick walls and they are crumbling a bit. I'm not sure if a power washing wouldn't crumble them further. Would a thin mortar layer and seal then paint work to achieve this cave like texture?
to find a cheap fix without installing drywall or putting up paneling. I hate the block wall look so I hate just to paint them but these walls could work perfectly for us! I've looked elsewhere online and I haven't seen this texture anywhere.
summer I opened my basement windows to introduce some fresh air which unbeknownst to be was humid air and in turn produced condensation on the cold duct work. I hope that helps.
