use plastic shades - just too fussy and hard to keep clean... what i did add to my bathroom window ( condo in DC ) ..was a sliding mirror that i can pull across window when privacy is wanted ( my mother comes to visit) .. just a nice track in ceiling and a mirror mounted on wet-proof backing w/ stainless

going to make it worse. Personally, I'd pick up the color cues from the existing tile and stone within the space for your wall color & accessories. Pulling the grey/khaki/olive from the slate and repeating it in the paintwork, towels and bringing in some natural wood & black iron accessories & fixtures
