I love the idea of the stairs w/o handrail, but how do you get away with it. Perhaps even on the wall side as not to close it off?
Please advise, what is the height of the room, the bed and the height of each stair Thank you
Those are not stairs, they are drawers. And falling out of the bed would be the same distance as falling from a regular bed to the floor. (And when was the last time you heard of that happening?) I grew up sleeping on an upper bunk before putting guard rails on was ever heard of.
thank you for you answer, one more question, what are the dimensions of each stair (width and depth)
Build over bathroom/kitchen and use steps instead of ladder (easier to come down in middle of night)

How is the stair attached to wall? How thick are the steps?
I've been thinking about doing something similar to this in my san francisco small space, but my neighbors have told me that I have to install sprinklers underneath such a permanent platform, according to sf building codes. How did you deal with this
this? Are my neighbors wrong? Or are building codes different where you installed this platform?
how high does the ceiling have to be to build a bedroom platform?
ecannizz, the gray floor is poured concrete. the stairs and sleeping platform are bamboo if you
be great use of space and add storage. Just a thought. This is one great design. Love the floating stairs!
hi red179 the platform is about 40" tall. here's a trick of the trade: when you see stairs in an image you can quickly guestimate height based on a typical riser being 7-7.5" (height from top

Original Architecture and Reclaimed Furniture in PittsburghA 1980s remodel had transformed this onetime bank into a bland, Sheetrock-covered office building. Luckily, a complete gut revealed its beautiful bones: 15-foot-high ceilings, a load-bearing brick wall and original pine flooring. A second bedroom

the bed is on like the thing with the drawers and stairs where did u get it i need to know ASAP
How do you build a design like that?
Would this design if inspected by county building code officers pass building codes? Does it even fall under codes if not how do you know?
like this but a little bigger. So I am not sure how to exactly build it? Any suggestions on how to start it off and how can I make sure it can handle the above weight?
I really do love this, I just don't know how to build it? so if I had the plans it woud be awesome. except I would make the drawers a little shorter cut a perfect sized hole on the right side and stick a mini fridge in there. :) but if you could give me the plans for it that would be great
