A better detail would probably be to have a more solid anchor point at the non-wall end by introducing some steel...maybe a steel tube the same size as the balusters....welded to a steel plate which would be anchored to the framing in the wall below. This would be especially important where children
children are present...they tend to like to grab onto places like this and swing around onto and off of the stairs. It's why newell posts are so often loose...they take a tremendous load from being used as a pivot point.

Im trying to design a railing for my staircase. This looks different, is that metal plates or tube steel. I like the flatter look more than the box shape of tube, I thought that was my only choice that railings were usually done.
