While typically associated with traditional bedding sets, a bed skirt is often overlooked in a modern bedroom. A bed skirt and box spring cover can prove to be extremely useful bedding pieces to have in a bedroom. For use between the mattress and box spring, a bed skirt provides the functional yet decorative task of covering the box spring while subtly peeking out from beneath your comforter or duvet.

For hiding under bed storage or concealing unsightly metal bed frames, bed skirts create a continuous flow of fabric from your duvet cover all the way down to the floor. For subtle home decorators, the bed skirt can be the single pop of color or pattern in an otherwise monochromatic or neutral bedding set. If a bed skirt is too traditional for the contemporary design of your bed, decorative box spring covers are an option to conceal the unsightly box spring and are available in heavier fabrics like matelassé or percale. A box spring cover will not cover a metal bed frame, so they are preferable for a platform bed, sleigh bed, or other beds with finished sideboards.
