In Seattle's Fremont neighborhood SCJ Studio designed a new landscape to surround and set off a contemporary home by Coates Design Architects. The narrow spaces around the tall home needed structure and organization, and a thoughtful approach to layout and space programming. A concrete patio was installed with a Paloform Bento gas fire feature surrounded by lush, northwest planting. A horizontal board cedar fence provides privacy from the street and creates the cozy feeling of an outdoor room among the trees. LED low-voltage lighting by Kichler Lighting adds night-time warmth. Meghan’s office presented a lot of opportunities for artwork, and a variety of it! It was an exciting challenge; one that we took in stride, as searched high and low for the perfect pieces. The hardest part about our search was finding large enough pieces of art to fill each wall. The gallery wall came about admist this struggle. Inspired by the water color prints from Meghan’s previous office, we decided to combine those with a variety of graphic prints in wood frames mixed in with photographs and sculptural pieces here and there.

The sage green vessel sink was the inspiration for this powder room! The large scale wallpaper brought the outdoors in to this small but beautiful space. There are many fun details that should not go unnoticed...the antique brass hardware on the cabinetry, the vessel faucet, and the frame of the mirror that reflects the metal light fixture which is fun and adds dimension to this small but larger than life space. This stunning garage door is from the Haas American Tradition Series in a wood grain finish. Being made of steel, this door requires no maintenance and will always look just as beautiful as the day it was installed. It was designed and installed by Lowell Overhead Door.

After living in this newer townhome for years, this family of two decided that a builder grade master bathroom suite is not what they wanted. The couple desired a more contemporary and modern combination of tiles and fixtures. The husband really wanted a steam shower and the wife wished for a state of the art whirlpool/spa fixture. Our team tore down the original bathroom to its bare studs. Taking a few inches from the adjacent closet, allowed our team to convert the old shower stall to a larger steam shower with a built-in bench and niche, added space and a gorgeous glass enclosure. They cleverly mixed the stacked stone and large-scale porcelain tile to emphasize the modern flair for this spa-style bathroom. The tub was moved to the corner to become a curved whirlpool jet tub surrounded in mosaic front and stacked background stone. A separate commode area was created with a frosted glass pocket door. His and her vanities were separated to give each of them a space of their own. Using contemporary floating vanities with marble tops contributed more to the final look. New double glass entry doors open up this master bath suite to the adjacent seating room and give a much more open feel for the new space. Smart use of LED lighting, chandelier, recessed and decorative vanity lights made this master bathroom suite brighter. The couple aptly named this project “Oasis From Heaven".
