Bottom line: A gas fireplace insert can provide efficient warmth and ambience without

porches under upstairs bedrooms. How do you insulate to insure a warm floor and no drafts above the open space? Since a lot of your houses seem to be built in the NorthEast, you must have a good way of dealing with it. I'm in Ontario, Canada.
Unfortunately, you may not be able to get around it. Where this house was built there were no code restrictions that prohibited this loft ladder. Your best bet it to talk to builders in your area and see if they have ever built something that satisfies the code in your area.

Is this possible in my traditional kitchen?
