What technique and colors were used to get this effect?
it's venetian plaster- google it or check youtube.

know where I could find a similar fireplace, but only one sided. I am also interested to know what the dark grey material is surrounding it (not the plaster) is it part of the fireplace insert? Very lovely.

I would look for someone who specializes in venetian plaster, they are very skilled.
What type of artisan did you commission to do the fireplace? When I look up plaster artisans it is for a faux painted finish- not concrete. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This Venetian Plaster looks very similiar to the "cretestone" plaster we do in South-Africa. Beautiful, but porous in showers. It's basically cement mixed with either yellow or green type of acid. Effect really looks stunning!
houses like mine settle and floors can get uneven. Mine is pretty good so far but there are cracks in the walls in places. Would there be a danger of a plaster tub (not on ground level) cracking as the house settles?

builder to get a recommendation for a quality sheet metal fabricator. The walls are finished in exterior cement plaster (stucco) that was "hard-trowelled" for a concrete look.
