such a spectacle. For a more refined method of cutting, a sturdy wood cutting board and quality bread knife will do the job best. The board shown here features a wooden lip that helps anchor it to the countertop for more precise cuts (and less chance of cutting yourself).
This Z-shaped cutting board adds a warm, organic touch to this sleek kitchen. The front ridge keeps the board in place, and the back keeps the knife steady while cutting; the raised back also lets you sweep chopped food into a pan or bowl in one fell swoop.

Where can I find someone to make this butcher block incorporated into the island?
Thanks Trish that's good to know!! In answer to where can you find someone to make this butchers block and incorporate it into the island. This particular block was bought ready made from John Boos (see the link in the first question) i then designed the cabinet to go under it and the marble profile
profile. The fabricators for the marble installed and fabricated the marble to accommodate the block. This particular block is the same thickness all round, it is sat into the counter. Retro fitting this idea into a counter may be more difficult, you would need to speak to your local fabricators. Regards
Susan, also, locally, Travis Perry has made them. He did the butcher block tops in the Savory Swine:)

is that a working wood block or just a fancy wood surface? I've been considering getting a wood counter rather than a quartz one, but the wife doesn't want knife marks in throughout
That is a working butcher's block by John Boos. If you want to install wood tops in the kitchen, I'd be sure to keep a portable cutting board handy to avoid destroying the counter. Personally, if this were my kitchen, I would use that thick block for what it's intended.... Chopping...

just that — countertops. You should use a cutting board to protect your wood countertop or you'll end up with cut marks all over it. But if you want the warmth of wood and the functionality of a commercial food prep area, then consider a large butcher block as a portion of your countertop. Tip: If you'd

You're preparing things in it, so you want to be near the next step. That would probably be the area where the cutting board is used. Also closer to the public part of the kitchen (as opposed to the working area of stove and regular sink) as guests might use it for
