I think you have the space for something with more square footage. But I like having the French doors there and perhaps some side windows so you could keep a distant eye on the backyard activities:-)

If you want to reduce heat, do the reverse: Install clerestory windows on the north side of your home, which will allow natural light in during the cooler part of the day. You can also install them wherever tree shade will filter direct sunlight. Consider installing clerestory windows
locations for maximum natural daylight. For example, the clerestory windows on this garden shed by BMF Construction reduce the shed's reliance on electric light.

Hi topframer! We used 3/4" square galvanized hardware cloth on all open sides and the roof. We attached this with 1" galvanized hog clips into the untreated cedar framing at the ends

With 40 square feet, the coop (nestled inside a toolshed) has more than enough space for Dalley's chickens, Ruby, Hiko and Ash.
