It looks amazing! Few questions... 1. Is this Ipe? 2. Is it mounted on metal (steel?) 2 x 4's? 3. Any other info about how they continued the siding above the roofline would be appreciated. Thanks!
The homeowners used a fancier redwood on the house face for its durability and stained it to the exact tone they wanted... a more chocolate hue. It is 1x6 horizontal redwood siding on 2x furring over stucco. Extension is the same continued above the roof line with cutout for visual interest and to break

Questions1
It's a bit complicated but the idea is to use at least three widths of boards and have them slightly offset from 1/4" to 3/8" to 1/2". The boards should be sandblasted prior to pull out the grain a it deeper. This particular pour has a slight color agent in the concrete
