Polished may be difficult in the bathroom due to limited area, the machines that polish need some space to move. Unless the walls aren't up it may be a challenge. Staining might be a better option.

The mesh is in the mortar bed. If you get two inches from the wall you can see a bit of it in places if you look really closely.
