Flat crown moulding and continuous base trim incorporated into the design of this child's craft center work well with varying heights of open shelving with closed back cabinets. This playroom features flexible seating for gaming, watching TV or sleeping since the couch is a daybed with a trundle and the bean bag chairs are easy to move around the room. The custom slat wall and clear acrylic shelves creates a contemporary wall treatment for toys, books and fun accents without being intrusive to the space. The expandable table is perfect for building Legos or playing board games. Navy blue with a pop of orange is a fun color scheme that will will last as the kids grow up.

The sticker material was also painted and cut to be used as color splatters behind the mirrors in her bathroom.

The trestle in the foreground lifts to allow easy access to the open central control area of the train set; it's also high enough for three-year-old Angelo to climb underneath. Colorful storage cubbies hold controls, extra trains and accessories. This vignette depicts a farm scene and train depot.

This bedroom was completed after our design was selected by BATC / Special Spaces for their 2014 Design Competition to design a bedroom for four-year-old Eli. Our design focused on creating a fun room for this little boy with a love of all things with wheels (and Ninja Turtles!). The carpet was replaced with durable luxury vinyl planks that mimic wood. A loft bed was added along with a race car bed so that the room can grow with Eli. We incorporated racing stripes along with racing decals. A closet system was added to help keep Eli organized.

My oldest daughter, Grace, is a "tween" and asked for her room to be redecorated. Previously it was bright colors of teal, pink and purple walls (which she picked when she was 4....now she is 12). I agreed that it needed a fresh start. Grace wanted her room to be less cluttered and more grown-up. First, she sorted, threw out and donated. Extra items that remained went in new under-the-bed storage containers. Second, I decided to work from her furniture colors. The pieces were purchased in the Netherlands during our time living in Germany. Gradations of "blush" were used throughout the room and in various textures. Next, Grace and I collaborated on selecting draperies, a rug and bedding. A complentary neutral paint color was then chosen. Finishing touches were placed in specific places to provide balance, such as the canvas artwork, which also adds a touch of shimmer. Glass lamps add harmony to the design. Grace is thrilled with her new room! (And with some smart shopping, cost-effecient!)

By situating this elaborate train setup along the walls of this room with sloped ceilings, left the middle open for Angelo and his dad to access any area of the train set easily. The painted scenery on the walls echoes the theme of each vignette; in the far corner is a farm scene. Three-and-a-half year old Angelo came up with the word "traintastic" when he saw his new hobby room.
