I HAD THIS FIREPLACE DONE IN MY FAMILY ROOM ( EXCEPT FOR THE SEE THRU) AND IT TURNED OUT BEAUTIFULLY. THE ROOM HAS A 12 FOOT CEILING THAT SLANTS DOWN TO 8 FT. VERY SHARPE LOOK. ALSO INCLUDED THE LIGHTS
The original fireplace is Texas limestone. It was plastered over by concrete to smooth out the walls and then tile was applied.

The tile is not recessed, it sits against the inside of the mantel surround.
