will only grow to a certain height/ width. Running bamboo will grow and keep growing...and never stop growing. I'd go clumping but avoid planting into pots as it really needs room to grow well. This job we couldn't avoid it but still would prefer to put bamboo in the ground. Try ghost bamboo, it's stunning
