How thick are they? How far do they extend from the wall? How much is inside of the wall?
treads are steel. They project out approximately four feet from the wall. Steel embed plates were formed into the concrete. The contractor did a fabulous job welding the treads on and getting them perfectly aligned so they appear to have been formed into the concrete.

how the steel is treated or finished? Is it a painting technique? Did it start as raw steel
The steel was finished with copper sulfate and worked in by hand in multiple applications to create a patina that mirrors the finish of the stained mdf.
