That's was actually not the idea behind this stainless steel post, but it sure adds a suggestive element, and a sparkle, to this dark and sexy kitchen.
The actual task was to get power into the island without disturbing the heatmat in the old tile floor, which was simply overlayed with
black Italian tile.
The history behind this island is a story in itself - the design went through 7 transformations, starting out with a very traditional shape and design, and quickly moving towards this soft sinuous shape, that allowed for a much better flow through the space and out onto the deck.
