Thanks for your interest. The wood is a vertical grain fir. It was treated with a product from Daly's, in the Seattle area, called Benite to even the acceptance of the stain by the wood (get rid of blotchy patches). Then a two stage staining process was used
used. Then a polyurethane top coat. What I might recommend it to buy a piece of vertical grain fir, use a wood conditioner such as Benite, and try several colors of stain. Another route is to take a piece of existing wood from the house that has the color you want and hire a professional, such as Daly's

Can you tell me about the side table, against the wall?
on the curtains. They look like silk, but curious as to fabric, brand, custom or not, hem size at top/bottom and what you used to hang them. I want wood shutters but they seem to be out of sight price wise. Yes, our dining room is in a corner that we will be walking through all the time, too!
