What is name of the yellow plant? Will it grow in NC?
That plant is Solidago rugosa 'Fireworks'. It should be able to grow in your area.
This plant should do fine in zone 6, probably not much higher though. In West Michigan
Select the right plant. Instead of going overboard with many different plants, try to find one that will fill all of your needs. This mass of Solidago 'Fireworks' is simple and amazingly effective at

Morningside bungalow
1919 bungalow was lovingly taken care of but just needed a few things to make it complete. The owner, an avid gardener wanted someplace to bring in plants during the winter months. This small addition accomplishes many things in one small footprint. This potting room, just off the dining room, doubles

no more threat than a double hung open during rain. The design idea was to make this potting room as much like a porch as possible. The owner grows plants from seed so between the windows and the fan the breeze helps to grow strong stems. And finally there is the delight in a detail such as this.
Desk against window along length of wall
The homeowner overwinters plants like begonias in the potting room and drags in potted plants from around the pool, like fruit trees and firs, to help them survive the colder months. She also grows plants from seeds here. “We mixed a lot of metals out here, like nickel

For retaining walls. When the ground is sloped or on an incline, called a grade change, large boulders can be moved into place to create different levels, or terraces. The soil is cut back to create a ledge or a flat surface, and boulders are settled in to hold the soil back. Boulders can be mortared
together or dry set, stacked or nestled without mortar. Many times it's the sheer weight of the boulder that keeps it in place. When creating a retaining wall of any kind, remember to include weep holes, so moisture or rainwater can escape. You can do this by adding a smaller-diameter PVC pipe in between the

Taming the SlopeBuild a retaining wall. A retaining wall is an obvious solution and one that makes sense if you need a level terrace for entertaining or playing sports. Its impact on the land is significant, since it involves reshaping the land. Retaining walls are generally made of stone, timber, concrete
concrete blocks or poured concrete. A wall higher than 18 inches will likely need to be backfilled with gravel and a French drain to relieve pressure caused by water buildup. Be sure to check your local guidelines for wall height, as you may need to install a railing for safety.
