Jim Ashley-Down It should be possible to sit out on a balmy night without the need to bring out any other lighting. On the other hand, when the lanterns do come out, they should not be drowned out by the house lighting.

Jim Ashley-Down The original house sits robustly in its landscape, with rows of small windows looking out to the garden. The Pavilion, by contrast, has this corner cut away (the glazing slides into the walls to create a completely open corner. Exterior and interior lighting is 'feathered' one into the other.

Jim Ashley-Down The house sits on a promontory, so most views of the building are from below. Lighting is limited to a line of soft wash lighting around the foot of the two buildings. The deep eaves help to contain the light, making the building seem to be sitting gently on a bed of light.
