The island is a dark charcoal with cool undertones that coordinates with the cabinetry and transom work in both the neighboring mudroom and breakfast area. White subway tile, quartz countertops, white enamel pendants and gold fixtures complete the update. The ends of the island are shiplap material that is also used on the fireplace in the next room. In the new mudroom, we used a fun porcelain tile on the floor to get a pop of pattern, and walnut accents add some warmth. Each child has their own cubby, and there is a spot for shoes below a long bench. Open shelving with spots for baskets provides additional storage for the room. This "perfect-sized" laundry room is just off the mudroom and can be closed off from the rest of the house. The large window makes the space feel large and open. A custom designed wall of shelving and specialty cabinets accommodates everything necessary for day-to-day laundry needs. Miele appliances (oven, steam, coffee maker, paneled refrigerator, freezer, and "knock to open" dishwasher), induction cooking on an island, a highly functional Galley Workstation and the latest technology in cabinetry and countertop finishes to last a lifetime. Grain matched natural walnut and matte nanotech touch-to-open white and grey cabinets provide a natural color palette that allows the interior of this home to blend beautifully with the prairie and pastures seen through the large commercial windows on both sides of this kitchen & living great room.
