love the colonnade - we also need to rebuild as previous owners have removed the original from our living room. i'm wondering what type of wood was used and what brand/color of stain. thank you!
acceptance of the stain by the wood (get rid of blotchy patches). Then a two stage staining process was used. Then a polyurethane top coat. What I might recommend it to buy a piece of vertical grain fir, use a wood conditioner such as Benite, and try several colors of stain. Another route is to take a piece
purchased from someone on Craigslist and reupholstered. I don't see the frames available from the store, but they had pewter nail head trim that we re-used. Good luck with your search.
for about $30-50 or so. This will create a continuity from other existing pieces in the house and the new colonnade. If you would like the colors we used, I could find them for you, however the process is rather pain staking and requires some experience with staining.

If you painted can you explain the process or what products did you use? I have the exact same table and I'm planning to paint it soon looking for a dark chocolate color. Thanks!
Hi Nicky- The table came in the black color, but I added a lacquer to the top to give it the glossy finish I like. I used a water-based product (so it wouldn't yellow over time) and gave it a few days to fully cure. The product was applied with a high quality bristle brush. Hope this helps!
Fantastic tip!! What brand of lacquer did you use? Did you have to sand the chairs first? Thanks again!
If you have wood dining chairs that are structurally intact but could use more personality, consider painting them a bold color, such as the pure yellow used here. This is an intense hue, but if you use it sparingly for a small punch of color, it won't dominate the space.
