model are these up/down lights? Thankyou.
Are the down lights OK to light a painting and of what max proportions? Does the uplight give out much light? Many thanks I have been hunting for ages. Katherine
LOVE the light on the ceiling!
I love the way the light curves around the ceiling, would love to use up lights in our basement hallway but I don't think we'll be able to curve the ceiling. Do the up light still look alright on a regular boxy ceiling?
Yes, up lights work on 90 degree angles. I would install them lower than shown here and perhaps add an interesting crown (that could add a bit of an arch).
The down lighting is not enough for a painting. However, the up lighting can be quite dramatic

radar, I'm noticing it all over Houzz. Its four-light interior makes it a chandelier, while its exterior gives it more of a pendant light look. It makes a wonderful first impression in an entryway.
And avoid the tunnel effect with some gentle natural light introduced from the side.

love the look of the light here--the cover lighting system; the narrow space leading to the door; the exposed wood and beams; faded rug.

Cove lighting. Nice play of old and new. The wood holds it together.

center them between each wall kickout even though the lights will look rather zig zaggy as you look down the hal or what? If I try to line them up from the lobby chandelier, they will be close to one side of the hall wall and then the other as the lights go down the hall. Thanks
Overhead light placement for 80' long zig zaggy hall
consider wall sconces in addition to the ceiling. You will reduce the number of ceiling lights possibly avoiding zig zag problem while adding great lighting on the walls.
I like the warmth that you get from the hard wood floors, choice of wall color and placement of light fixtures. The scrolls on the door and along the archways help to add a feminine touch to the space.
