Outdoor areas are often the last to receive design attention, but they shouldn’t be: What surrounds your home is just as important as what's in it. Whether it's a manicured front lawn, stone paver pathway or intricate vegetable garden, these spaces benefit from the same attention to detail as any bathroom or kitchen. A well-designed landscape can complement your home's architecture and eclectic design, and the right plants, flowers and shrubbery can greatly enhance your curb appeal by adding color, texture and even fragrance to your yard. Fall in a Palo Alto Garden re-design. I designed a Willow Arch for this garden re-design project to go with the Willow furniture purchased for the new Secret Garden. The old lawn will be replaced with a low-water, no mow variety.

Blending a modern sensibility with traditional architecture, this garden features a front yard meadow with native grasses (Carex praecracilis) and wildflowers. Poured-in-place concrete pavers in a meandering pattern slow the approach from the sidewalk to the entry. The modest backyard has been maximized for entertaining with outdoor dining and seating areas. Native plants, herbs, and edibles share the back garden beds, and a raised pond brings the garden to life.
