Tropical plantation architecture was the inspiration for this hilltop Montecito home. The plan objective was to showcase the owners' furnishings and collections while slowly unveiling the coastline and mountain views. A playful combination of colors and textures capture the spirit of island life and the eclectic tastes of the client.

Quick kitchen update - remove doors on upper cupboards to create an open shelving look. Customise further with strips of colourful Washi tape along shelf edges. As featured in the book Home for Now by Joanna Thornhill (Cico Books, 2014). Photography: Emma Mitchell

The master bedroom ceiling was made without one nail - Ceiling light by Fortuny. Two layers of window shades - black out and light filtering have been recessed into the walls and hidden when not in use. Shades are controlled by a Lutron system integrated into the Homeworks lighting. Messed up covers -compliments of my four year old who likes the "people live here" look:)
