Wood and Stone Steps
conquers steep slopes. Wood steps with boulders and gravel. This property in Lake Oswego, Oregon has a backyard that is almost all steep hillside. Using wood timbers and stones we are able to create winding pathways that make the space walkable. The boulders hold the steps in place and retain the slope

How did they secure the steps?
only to create a focal point, but also as a practical approach to design. This swimming pool is offset into a circular retaining wall; the circular stepping stones show people the way to the pool and add balance and stability.More: How to apply the principles of balance outside

Vantage Park - Maximum flexibility with 10 sliding doors
The design is convenient to owners. Locating adjacent to the bathroom, the owner can simply slide the door open to get the clothes with the “step-on light button” on the staircase.
How to reach the space hidden behind the steps?
Would you have to slide the steps aside? How? Are they on rollers?
There were no space behind the steps as it was the wall of the bay window right behind the steps. From Clifton Leung Design Workshop.
